After graduating from BHS, Gail attended Douglass College and graduated with a BA in English & Spanish. She practice taught at Teaneck H.S. and her first teaching job was at Riverdell Jr. High. After 2 years she returned to Rutgers to ger her masters in Spanish. While studying for her masters, she met and married Barry Wittman, a graduate math student at Rutgers.  Gail had taken a job in "student life" which allowed her, and then both Gail & Barry, to live on campus.  They enjoyed campus living so much that, Gail took a full-time job in student life (or "Deaning", as it is sometimes called), and never looked back.  They lived on and raised their family on a woman's campus virtually all of their lives and loved the collegiate atmosphere and the many offerings of a large university.  Gail retired in 2002, as Dean of Commuting Students, and at this writing, she and Barry have moved to a nearby apartment while they figure out what to do next with their lives.
Gail's interests and hobbies are reading mysteries, English history, travel, and ethnic cooking.  Two of her most unforgettable moments are of a 1992 trip from Venice to London on the Orient Express and in 1988 when they were able to attend the Wimbledon Finals in England.
Last summer she visited her childhood friend, Jodi Picciano, in California.  They hadn't seen each other in 44 years and really enjoyed reminiscing.  Jodi reminded Gail of an incident that happened when Gail was a Senior and Jodi a Junior.  Gail had last period study hall, and as a Senior, could skip it and leave at 2:30 PM.  Jodi had typing last period, but on this day they knew Miss Dix was absent, and figured that a substitute wouldn't even miss Jodi.  Gail urged Jodi to go shopping with her in Hackensack, which she finally did, with great trepidation.  Unfortunately, the typing class substitute that day was MR. POLLISON, who noticed Jodi's absence immediately.  He confronted her the next morning and gave her a week's detention!!  It's a miracle they're still friends.  Ha Ha!!
While she has enjoyed many special achievements in her professional life, what's most precious to Gail, was marrying a great guy and raising two wonderful kids.  She says "my husband insists I mention that in addition to several awards, I also have had a conference room in the Douglass College Center named after me."  Pretty impressive Gail . . .
