When we graduated from BHS, Joan's parents had planned for her to go on  to Katherine Gibbs (secretarial school), but if you remember, back in the 50's the big companies from NYC used to come to the high schools to recruit people.  Joan decided she  wanted to go straight to work for Mutual of New York (MONY).  In the 3 years she worked there she attained the position of Clerical Supervisor (with 4 girls reporting to her).  (Miss Dix had taught her great business & typing skills)
Marrying her wonderful, understanding and patient husband and being able to stay at home for 15 years, to raise their two daughters was, she knows now, the greatest luxury a woman can enjoy.  During those years, Joan and her husband "Fus"  worked hard at renovating and putting additions on their home, which they have all enjoyed over the years.  Their oldest daughter, Cheryl, has two terrific daughters they have loved spending time with over their growing-up years.  Their younger daughter, Denise, has enjoyed having a career and rescuing dogs, mini-dachshunds to be more exact (at one point she had 5 of them).
When her oldest was 15, Joan went back to work for a  Swedish owned  company, Sandvik, Inc., U.S. home office in Fair Lawn, NJ, with global markets all over the world.  She had a really terrific 24 plus years as Fleet Manager for the U.S. and Canada.  She was responsible for the acquisition, maintenance of, replacement, disposition  and general management of all vehicles (cars, trucks, minivans, etc.) assigned to sales, service management and executive staff.   Because of her job and the many fleet conferences she had to attend, Joan and Fus got to see many parts of the U.S. and Canada they might never have seen. At the time of her retirement, the fleet had grown from 120 vehicles  in 1977 to over 900 in 2001.
Now, she is enjoying her gardening, computer surfing, some travel, sewing, art classes, etc.   Life is good !!
