Suzanne and I
spent virtually all of our married life in Connecticut. I
worked 31 years for United Technologies,
starting at Corporate Systems Center (corporate think tank)
and finishing with Norden
Systems division (WW2 Bombsight) as a Sr. Member
of the Sr. Scientific Staff, Sr. Systems Engineering,
Advanced Programs. I worked on a number of interesting
programs, including advanced multi-pipeline signal
processors, synthetic aperture radar systems (B52
OAS, A6F, F4, A12, EA6B, JointStars, etc.), and inertial guidance systems (Lunar Lander, Mars Lander,
Space Shuttle, etc.) We moved to Cypress (northwest of
Houston) in 2005 to
be closer to our children and grandchildren.
I retired at 55, consulted with Norden for a year,
did nothing for a few years, then I un-retired and started an Internet development business,
creating adaptive code technologies relating to
website performance . We have been steadily reducing our workload, making
the normal business operations run by themselves I run
the business in Virginia via telephone and email, paying the
bills, and writing reports to some of our development
clients. We now live in a a nice neighborhood in
the town next to two (Kevin (and Erin) and Dan IV (and Mairi)) of our children and
two grandchildren, Colin and Griffin. Our daughter (Robin) moved from
Albuquerque in 2007, with her daughter Leila( our granddaughter). .
There are a lot more people living in this area compared to
where we lived in Connecticut and Virginia, so we are
getting reacquainted with suburban living. We have had a lot
of guests here, as the weather in the Houston area
is very similar to that of Florida. We have palm trees by
our pool, and we have flowering trees and shrubs just about
year-round. The humidity is OK because of air-conditioning.
Unlike Florida, hurricanes do damage with direct hits, but
once you are north of Houston, they pretty much die out-so
far. |
