MagNet1 Internet Systems

"Networking the Net in Virginia"

Website Hosting, etc.

Introduction: There are two critical issues associated with web hosting. First, read the questions and answers below. At the bottom of this list, is a section on managing your website. How do you keep it up to date, and what are the options and costs involved.

1.  Should your business have a web-site.....and should it be part of the MagNet1 "System ?
Who knows more about your business, than you do? It all comes down to decisions you make every day.   What are your long term plans?  If you want your business to grow, to prosper, to survive, virtually every day you take into account all the facts you know,  your instinct and experience, and you make decisions. This is no different, with the exception that you may not have the instinct and/or experience with the Internet. We have the knowledge and experience with the Internet  to help you make the right decision. There is no cost or obligation for a consultation about your business. Even though the Internet is relatively early in its development, there is a lot of mis-information. Take a look at what we offer and/or call for a free brochure. Measure what we say, versus others. Our system exists for your business. Just having a web-site, and getting on the web is not enough. We are all small fish in a big pond. We can't make you a big fish, but we can reduce the size of the pond.

2.  How is your  business found on the Internet?
Ask your present web-host, or anyone else that wants to "get you on the Internet".  There are many choices to get a website designed and hosted, but do any of these options tell you how  your site will be found. If they say they will register your site with the "major search engines" -- beware. These engines are not designed to find local businesses. If you take this approach, will you be on the first page of listings? If you get on page 1, will you stay there? There are many services that you pay each month to insure that you are in the top 50 listings, but if the search is 10/page, then you might be on page 5. Rarely does anyone look beyond the first or second page. We can get you listed on these search engines , but it's still not enough.

What do we do that's better?  We make sure your website is in compliance with the rules of the search engines. We register your site in the places that the search engines look for new websites.

Use the navigation buttons at the top of the page to read about WebRanking, and what we do to improve the probability of your business being found on the Internet.

When you find out what others do to support your business, you will find the answer to be most likely....... NOTHING !!!!!

3.   What Else?
It's really pretty simple. We will at your convenience, spend whatever time is necessary to provide you with the facts you need to make  informed decisions. We will send you information explaining what we do, what typical costs are incurred, and how your site is created and kept up-to-date.

Your Web Management Options

1.  Use typical HTML Editor program like MS FrontPage. This costs about $150 and will take about 10 to 20 hours to learn without formal instruction, for a medium skilled computer user.

2.   Pay a third party (like us) for changes, updates, etc. The hourly rate for third parties is usually $40 to $60/hour . For a frequently changed site, this could be expensive.

3.  Other: Certain type sites can utilize data base technology that allows certain changes to be easily made, following simple instructions. Examples are real estate sites (managing property information), inventory control sites, and shopping cart/online sales sites. We will discuss these and other options to make sure you get support you need at the minimum costs.
